Below is a brief description of the Events
as well as the 2010-2011 dates.
(Please note: dates are subject to change)
BANANA SPLIT DAY (STA & SJP)
Friday, Aug. 27th & Friday, May 6th (10am - 1pm)
Volunteers fix banana splits for the children at STA and SJP.
The cost is $1.00 for 1 scoop/3rd -8th graders can purchase 2 scoops for $2.00. We need at least 18 volunteers at STA and 14 at SJP. Dads
are a real big help with scooping the Ice Cream. These are held twice a year.
BINGO (STA & SJP)
Tuesday, Jan. 18th -3-8, Wednesday,
Jan. 19th PK-2
2 nights of BINGO will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Gonzales. One night is for PK-2nd grade from 6-8pm. One night is for 3rd – 8th
grade from 6-8pm. Students
have a chance to win prizes. If you have children that fall on both nights, you
can pick either night to attend. Siblings are welcomed to this event. We sell pizza and refreshments. Information on Bingo usually
goes out the first week in January. Volunteers are needed to help with set up,
sign in, refreshments and clean up.
BREAKFAST WITH SANTA (STA & SJP)
Saturday, December 4th at SJP
We host a Breakfast with Santa for children in PK-2nd grade and their siblings
at the St. John Campus.
There are games and activities for the children and pictures with Santa.
Volunteers are needed to setup, decorate and serve for this activity. Information
is sent home a few weeks prior to this event. You can bring your own camera and
take a picture with Santa. Event time 9-11am. Decorating usually done afternoon before.
BRETT-N-BRETT PEP RALLY (STA ONLY)
Friday, Dec. 3rd
In December a Pep Rally is held on the Friday
(GYM) of the Brett n Brett Basketball Tournament. Homeroom representatives and
volunteers paint faces on the STA Campus. Face Painting is from 10:30AM-1PM. The Pep Rally begins about 1:30 PM.
CAFETERIA/WARIOR BUCKS (STA & SJP)
3 volunteers at SJP Campus and 3 Volunteers at STA Campus
are needed each day to assist in the cafeteria to serve
lunch. Warrior Bucks are redeemed periodically at lunch time 2 -3 volunteers
are needed at each campus. Warrior Bucks are the “St. Theresa and St. John School Money”
rewards that your children earn for good behavior and spend on items such as grab bags, cokes, bracelets, erasers etc.
CARING AND SHARING COMMITTEEE (STA & SJP)
Parents reaching out to families of students, faculty and staff, in times of need. Volunteers are needed to help provide food for the family for one night.
Sympathy and get well cards are also sent out. This is done on an
as needed basis.
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK (STA/SJP)
Monday, Jan. 31 - Friday, Feb.
4th
One morning during this week volunteers take over staff duties to allow them to attend a breakfast.
Volunteers are needed from 6:45am-7:45am.
CATHOLIC SCHOOLs WEEK SOCIAL LUNCH
During Catholic Schools Week, we will pick a restaurant in the Gonzales area for lunch. A
flyer will be sent home in January with details. Open to parents of STA and SJP.
COOKBOOKS
The Home and School Association published a second edition cookbook in 2006. Anyone needing a cookbook can call any officer. Anyone willing
to sell cookbooks in their place of business please contact an officer of Home and School.
CONCESSION DAY (STA /SJP)
Friday, Sept.
10th, Friday, Nov. 5th & Friday, Feb. 11th
This is held 3 times a year. 15 volunteers
at STA Campus and 12 at St. John Campus are needed to sell
candies and soft drinks during lunch recess.
FAMILY NIGHT OUT (STA/SJP)
Once in the fall and the spring there will be a restaurant that families and friends of STA
and SJP can go out to eat. A portion of the proceeds will go to Home and School.
FATHER/DAUGHTER DANCE (STA & SJP)
Saturday, Feb.
5th
Parents are needed to help with decorating the STA gym and serving refreshments
the night of the dance. Preferably mothers/fathers who have only sons. On alternating
years it is the Mother/Son Dance, with the parents of daughters working the dance.
FIELD DAY
(STA CAMPUS)
Friday, April
15th
Volunteers are needed on the STA campus to coordinate and manage games and set them up the
night before Field Day. Volunteers are also needed to staff refreshment and ribbon tables and clean up after the events each
day. A set up meeting will be held in February/March for anyone wanting to help
with field day. This event takes about 60-75 people each day. Lunch is also provided
by the Home and School Association for all students and staff.
FIELD DAY
(SJP CAMPUS)
Thursday, April
14
Volunteers are needed on the SJP campus to coordinate and manage games and set them up the
night before Field Day. Volunteers are also needed to staff refreshments and clean up after the event each day. A set up meeting will be held in February/March for anyone wanting to help with field day. This event takes
about 60-75 people each day. Lunch is also provided by the Home and School Association for all students and staff.
GRANDPARENTS’ DAY (STA & SJP)
Thursday, Nov.
4th (SJP), Monday, Feb. 21st (STA)
Volunteers are needed to greet grandparents and assist with refreshments and clean up. These events are on separate days at each campus.
This event is usually at SJP in the fall and STA in the spring. Event time is 8:30am-10:30am.
HEARING SCREENING (STA & SJP)
Volunteers are needed to bring students from the classrooms to the screening places. Volunteers are also needed to help with the screening, usually done in October.
HOMEROOM REPRESENTATIVES (STA & SJP)
These duties include, but are not limited to coordinating class parties, helping with special
projects and being a liaison between the teachers and the parents. Homeroom representative will receive 20 hours credit towards
the volunteer hours program. This will be set up between Home and School and
the teachers by early September. To serve as a representative you must have completed all required children protection requirements,
including fingerprints.
PARENTS NIGHT OUT (STA & SJP)
Held in the spring, this is a night of great food and fun.
Drawing for the free year tuition is done at this event. Everyone must purchase a ticket to this event. It is an ADULT
ONLY FUNCTION. See description later in this packet.
PARENT WORK DAYS (STA & SJP)
Tuesday, Aug.
31st
Volunteers are needed on both campuses to help teachers with construction paper sorting, making
copies and tearing papers out of workbooks. We begin at 8am an it usually
lasts all day.

Volunteers are needed to gathers students from their classroom and assist
the photographer. In August, we take Yearbook pictures (school uniform); November
- Pictures with Santa (Sunday Dress); January - Group Class Pictures and Club
pictures (uniforms with sweatshirts); and, March - Spring Pictures (Free Dress) Pictures start at 8:15 and last until about 11:30am.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES (STA/SJ)
Prepackaged school supplies can be ordered through Home and School in May. Students can pick
up their supplies on the morning of the meet the teacher in August.
SCOLIOSIS SCREENING (STA ONLY)
Volunteers are need on the STA campus to help
screen 5th-8th grade boys and girls. We need moms and dads. A
screening lesson will be given the morning of the event.
SPORTS PICTURES (STA ONLY)
Tuesday, Mar.
22nd
Volunteers are needed to help the photographer
with the various individual and team sport pictures. These pictures are taken after 2:30pm
dismissal in October and March.
TUTITION RAFFLE: 1 year of free tuition is raffled off at the Parents Night Out. You can
earn tickets by volunteering for Home and School sponsored event (10 volunteer hours =1 ticket) or you purchase a ticket for
$100.00.
VISION SCREENING (STA/SJP)
Volunteers (12) are needed to bring students from the classrooms to the screening places. Volunteers are also needed to assist with the screening.
VOLUNTEER HOURS
Each time you work a home and school sponsored event you must sign in and out. Records of your volunteer hours are kept. 10 volunteer hours
equal 1 free tuition raffle ticket. You must sign in and out with the chairperson
for this event.
8th GRADE LUNCHEON
Tuesday, May 17th
3 people are needed to set up and serve for the 8th Grade Luncheon in May.
